I stay away from any game that is licensed because 9 times out of 10 the game turns out to be pretty poor. Then I saw the IGN review which gave the game a pretty good score. So, we rented it for a day to check it out.I was pleasantly surprised! There seems to be a pretty wide selection of cars so far, and we haven't even completed the 2nd set of levels yet. The actual gameplay is pretty outstanding. You actually have to change your style of play when you go from a battle race to a normal race, for example. There's also a good amount of "freedom" in the game. You can get pretty creative in finding shortcuts or finding secret passages on some levels, or trying to pull off more tricks, etc. You also can complete missions with 2 or more players. That's a really nice touch. There's a severe lack of multiplayer games out there. It's nice that you can play every single part of Cars 2 with 2, 3, or even 4... Our entire family is having lots of fun racing. All the tracks and characters are the same ones seen in Cars 2. This made seeing the movie all the more fun. We have several different racing games but have never had one that was this easy to play AND had so many game play options. The tutorial is extremely helpful and taught us all the special tricks that each car is capable of doing. Two thumbs up. Totally worth the money for any Cars enthusiast. 6 of 7 people found the following review helpful By = Fun: Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Cars 2: The Video Game (Video Game) This is another very good Pixar licensed game by Avalanche Software- not quite as good as Toy Story 3, but still a good, solid, Mario Kart style racing game. It plays well, but certain types of races are more fun than others, and the fact that you have to repeat the un-fun ones over and over to advance becomes a drag after a while. There is a points based unlocking system which adds some replayability, but some of the later races get very difficult- I don't see little kids getting through them. For me, I'd rather just play Mario Kart, but for my kid who loves Cars, this is a well made -but still inferior- substitute.I'd give it 3 1/2 stars if I could. |
